To speak a little about manipulations and sects makes this site more complete in the domain of belief systems.
If there is an organization who is directly concerned with belief systems, it's certainly a sect because all is based on beliefs. So the purpose of this article is to clarify what is a sect and what is not. Of course, all this in the light of the previous articles and particularly the intuition.
What holds back most people from adopting or accepting new beliefs, is the fear of "falling into a sect"
What's more, is that to open oneself to new beliefs is considered gullible. So it is opportune to analyze a little what systems are used by those belief manipulators who are sects. Let's start with manipulators and the manipulated.

1) Mental manipulations

This brings us in the domain of psychology and psychoanalysis. I am far from understanding all what has been researched by people like Sigmund Freud, and Carl Gustav Jung or their more recent colleagues. On the other hand, you don't need a lot of intelligence to understand or "feel" a certain behavior "pattern" of some people
One of these patterns is the manipulator and his "victims" the manipulated.
Everybody cannot be a manipulator. The manipulator is also a person with frustrations due to an erroneous education, which gives him this need to dominate and manipulate other people.
This lack of construction of his personality, will make him / her search by all means to fill this emptiness by believing himself / herself superior to others and by manipulating the others. This phenomenon is mostly unconscious by the manipulator. (He considers himself normal...)
It must also be mentioned that this need to fill this emptiness does not give some pleasure to the manipulator, except in some rare cases where the manipulator experiences an ephemeral satisfaction after the manipulated do as he / she expected. (Like the greed for money, it also gives a temporary satisfaction when you receive money, but it quickly fades away because the underlying problem is not resolved, so you need more after a while...)
But the manipulator cannot exist when there's nobody to manipulate. The manipulated is also very often a person with psychological problems (fragility) in the sense of not being able to cope with the problems all around, (family, work, society...) and also with his personal problems. (frustrations) The life of this manipulated person (victim) becomes easier when the decisions are made for him/her by the manipulators (sect).

The problem is that the one will always try to manipulate more with all kinds of aggressions, (mental, sexual or other..) and the other, the manipulated, will always have to shut up more if he / she wants to stay "protected" (?) by the sect or by any other organization of the same style.
Finally, when this behavior is pushed to the extreme, both will end up in an asylum. Needless to say that this kind of interaction between humans does not serve evolution and is thus to avoid. (Although certain people who have been in a sect, and who got out, can describe the techniques used by the sect, and write them into books so others can avoid such situations)

2) The success of sects.

You may ask yourself the question as a well structured personality, how is it possible that people believe those kind of promises that sects make ?

Hereafter are some extracts of promises done by sects.
ATTENTION ! I have chosen some examples of organizations among a huge list, but that doesn't mean they are sects!. Besides, I only present their promises without comment or judgment.

1) Scientology

On the official site we can read :
Developed by L. Ron Hubbard, Scientology is a religion that offers a precise path leading to a complete and certain understanding of one's true spiritual nature and one's relationship to self, family, groups, Mankind, all life forms, the material universe, the spiritual universe and the Supreme Being.
Scientology addresses the spirit - not the body or mind - and believes that Man is far more than a product of his environment, or his genes.
Scientology comprises a body of knowledge which extends from certain fundamental truths. Prime among these are:

Man is an immortal spiritual being.
His experience extends well beyond a single lifetime.
His capabilities are unlimited, even if not presently realized.

Scientology further holds Man to be basically good, and that his spiritual salvation depends upon himself, his fellows and his attainment of brotherhood with the universe.
Scientology is not a dogmatic religion in which one is asked to accept anything on faith alone. On the contrary, one discovers for oneself that the principles of Scientology are true by applying its principles and observing or experiencing the results.
The ultimate goal of Scientology is true spiritual enlightenment and freedom.

2) Jehovah's witnesses.

When looking on the official site, we can see that Jehovah's witnesses promise almost the same things as Christians or Catholics, and they use the same bible. (according to them!)

3) Falun Gong

On their official site we see :

What is Falun Dafa?

Falun Dafa (also called Falun Gong, or just Dafa) is a high-level cultivation practice guided by the characteristics of the universe-Truthfulness, Benevolence, and Forbearance.
"Cultivation" means continuously striving to better harmonize oneself with these universal principles. "Practice" refers to the exercises - five sets of easy-to-learn gentle movements and meditation. Cultivating oneself is essential; practicing the exercises supplements the process.

Over time, the principles of Dafa unveil the deepest and most profound truths of the universe. Following the principles, practitioners of Falun Dafa are able to reach very high realms, enlightening to the true meanings of life, and finding the path of return to their origins and true selves.
While the exercises have deep inner meanings, they also help to reduce stress and can bring great improvements in health and fitness.

4) Freemasonry:

You can visit the official sites of Freemasonry, like here and here, you will not find any information of what the Freemasons promise and learn in their institutions. The only thing that I personally can tell you, is by a book I've read from Pierre Vajda : Savoir et connaissance. (Approche herméneutique du rite écossais ancien et accepté).
According to this book, in brief, (and if I understood well!) Freemasonry is the fact of gaining a certain knowledge and also another vision of things, through a personal work of analyzing yourself with the help of symbols. All this to improve humanity according to the great Architect of the Universe.

5) Antroposophy.

On the official site we can read : What is Antroposophy ?
Anthroposophy is a source of spiritual knowledge and a practice of inner development. Through it one seeks to penetrate the mystery of our relationship with the spiritual world by searching for answers and insights that come through a schooling of one's inner life.
It draws, and strives to build, on the spiritual research of Rudolf Steiner, who maintained that every human being (anthropos) has the inherent wisdom (sophia) to solve the riddles of existence and to transform both self and society.
Rudolf Steiner shared the results of this research in 40 books and in over 6,000 lectures now available in 300 volumes. He is increasingly recognized as a seminal thinker of the 20th century and one of humanity's great spiritual teachers.

6) Catholic church

The promises of the catholic church are vast and can be seen here and here. And also on a lot of other sites or on other pages of the same site.

*************************************

Often, psychologists who do not know the spiritual domain, will say that the gurus of a sect tell unverifiable things because they are in the domain of beliefs . In fact, these gurus take advantage of a little spiritual knowledge, but with their manipulators mind, they do not apply it in the sense of the evolution for the attracted persons.
Sects take some truths out of spirituality to take advantage of their attraction on people. (Because the unconscious mind of people know what is truth and what is not.) That's the cause of the great success of some sects.

But to let yourself guide by another is not being guided by yourself, and as explained in the part "reality", the best guide is the inner guide through the use of intuition, which avoids needing the others.

Of course, once psychologically weakened by a sect, it is very important that those "victims" be assisted by somebody capable to guide them towards their inner guide, with the purpose of making them independent again, and to recover their force and discernment. That avoids their fallback.
So imagine what a psychologist, who has not only studied the classical psychology, but also spirituality as described on this site, could do to help these people in distress, simply by "adjusting" the ideas received in the sect to make them coincide with the total truth.
The success of recovery of those persons would be much higher. Now, if you say that psychologists like that do not exist, then look here :( Created by Colette Portelance: http://www.andc.eu/accueil/index.html )

3) Recognizing a real sect.

I realize that this is a very sensitive subject. Of course, the advice I will give is based on 15 years of experience in the domain of spirituality, because deciding what is a sect with only intelligence and / or logical deduction without having some spiritual knowledge, is almost impossible. (That is because sects use beliefs which are so called unverifiable. So how can we qualify an organization as sectarian if we cannot verify which beliefs are correct ? Unless we reject the whole thing, because it's unverifiable. What I consider a real sect is one that is contrary to evolution and is as a consequence harmful to the individual, or to the concerned community.)
Furthermore, a group of well-being could look harmless, but as explained in the article "New Politics", the boss of the group could have other unhealthy and hidden ideas in the back of his head, without showing it on the outside.
To the contrary, a person with good intentions in the sense of the highest good of all (evolution) could have created an association of well-being, but could be qualified as a sect.

The popular definition (in the dictionary) of sect is :
A group of men and women sharing the same philosophical, religious or other doctrine.
And also : Group of dissidents in the minority who are closed on themselves and created as opposition to mainstream religions or philosophies.
And even : Religious or other group with the purpose of exploiting the followers for the profit of one or more gurus.
With that kind of definitions, almost all groups or organizations can be considered as sects, because a group of persons with completely opposite ideas will not last a long time.(discussions are impossible)
A better way of seeing things, is to watch the final goal of an organization. (The things you can see by observing their behavior, and not based on what they are saying!)

If the final purpose is to make a lot of money, more than is needed to sustain the organization, and if the followers are forced to stay in the organization to feel well, that means that this kind of group is not emphasized on the well-being and the evolution of it's members.
(Especially when you notice that the ones who got out are completely disoriented.)
An organization who is really beneficial is in the style of providing useful knowledge to the concerned persons, while leaving them free to come and to go. Of course an organization of that style can also ask for money with the goal of continuing their activities, but the final aim is to make the interested happier, as well inside the organization as outside, and specially to make them independent. (So they don't need the community any more when the learning is completed. And also because they became strong enough to face the problems of life on their own.)
As said before, a simple (or complex) logical and intellectual analyze of the elements and techniques used by some people, does not permit to qualify them as a sect or not. What's more, an ignorance of real spirituality by those institutions designed to decide who is sect and who isn't, contributes to their inability to express a correct judgment.

So, how to recognize a real sect then ?

For those who have read and understood the first three parts of this site, (intuition, power of thought and reality) the answer is simple: It's sufficient to use one's intuition, in whatever form, (meditation, dowsing, channeling or others..) to know whether the concerned organization or group suits your personal evolution. (If they are considered sectarian or not)

But BEWARE ! This can have as consequence that a person may want to take the decision of going (or staying) into a real sect, because it's suitable for his personal evolution and he / she will get out without damage and even stronger than before.
But in most cases, your intuition will tell you to avoid this or that organization (real sect or not) because the personal and spiritual evolution is also possible without subscribing in an organization.

4) How to get out ? Or how not to get in ? :

Given that most people reading this article are probably not in a sect, and would like not to "fall" into one, let's begin with how to avoid sects.

For those who have already read and understood the previous articles, (intuition, power of thought and reality) or have become the same knowledge by other means, will say : OK, no problem, I can detect with my intuition what is a sect and what is not, and I can use my creative thought power to show me some unavoidable signs when there is danger! (with the help of hazard)
But there is something to observe though, it is also very useful to analyze yourself psychologically to eliminate most frustrations and eventual traumatism. Because without doing that, manipulators from sects are very skillful (consciously or unconsciously) to detect these "flaws" and will exploit them to the maximum. And if this "flaw" has also distorted the answer of your intuitive research, you could find yourself entering the lion's den.
Never forget also that the last person to decide to believe something or not, is YOURSELF! Nobody can do that in your place.

Beliefs of humans have as origin a choice, an acceptance of an information. So it's a personal decision with only YOU as responsible.
The purpose of this site and this article, is to help you making that choice. Not only logically and intellectually but also intuitively. In common language this is called :" choosing with the heart" And I will repeat myself by saying that the choice of beliefs for one person (a perfect choice for his evolution) will probably not suit another person. Even if some "main lines" are beneficial to everyone.

And if you are in a sect (or any other beneficial organization according to you of course) and you read this article, ask yourself the question :

"Am I honest with myself ?"

So, being honest with yourself, what does that mean ?
The simplest way of expressing this is : All what you think or believe, you apply these thoughts and beliefs in your daily life through your acts and conversations. It's the opposite of hypocrite. It's simply living fully your own truths.
(And not THE ONLY REAL TRUTH because this truth is hard to find. Because if you find this truth, the the process of evolution stops, but there is no end to evolution. So you can only find "temporary truths" who are suitable for the moment, but who will probably be obsolete in 3000 years.)

So if you can only live and express your truths in a well defined space, and if you do not want, or you may not live or express your truths in your social life, (family, company or society in general) for whatever reason, then you are not honest with yourself.

Another useful question is :

"Do I think by myself ?"

If, for all your questions and decision, you trust somebody else, (other than your own intuition) then you don't think by yourselves, and you let yourself guide by another person. (If it is by easiness or for whatever other reason.)

5) Conclusion.

To conclude I can confirm that deciding what is a sect and what is not, is not easy. It's the same problem for those institutions who try to classify the sects. And being assisted by people who know the spiritual domain, and use intuitive techniques is also hard because these people could already be considered as sectarian. (whether rightly or wrongly)

To go a little further, I would say that any organization that decides what is right or wrong for others, will always be partially wrong. It's like parents who decide for their child what he has to study and with whom he has to marry...etc.
This mostly ends up with a deception or even a tragedy. The only correct way, is that the people decide for themselves what beliefs suit them. And the only action an institution, who is to decide what is a sect and what is not, should undertake is to assist the concerned persons to make their own decisions.
A very efficient way to know whether your beliefs that you chose are suitable, is to observe their effect on your daily life, and on the others around you:
If those beliefs make you unhappy, and decrease your health, and your neighbors and friends don't speak to you any more or are avoiding you, then there is a great chance that your beliefs and certainties are the origin of your unhappiness.(Even if you say : I'm right, I know I'm right! It's the others that are always making me sick and sad.) So if the purpose of your life is to be happy, you will need to analyze what's wrong with your beliefs and certainties. In spirituality we know that "the others" (exterior) are only the reflection or mirror of your inner vision of things.

To the opposite, if you have chosen beliefs that have as effect a total happiness, an increase of health and that the others are looking forward to meet you, then you can state that the beliefs you have chosen are correct and well suited to lead a happy life.
You will have understood by now that the only one who can decide if you are happy in your life, is YOURSELF.(and not the others)

In fact, the lines above describe the same thing as in the article "power of thought" because by choosing certain beliefs, you create around you the "scenery" and the situations that go with it. For the simple reason that it is you the creator of your life!

To finish, I can say that if you use your intuition as the supreme guide, and your power of thought as means of action, all that you will create around you will be for the highest good of you and the others.
If a great number of humans would act like this, if an organization is really beneficial, it will continue to exist, if it's harmful, then it will cease to exist. If it was qualified as a sect or not.
That makes the question of "sect or not" is no longer necessary.
And keep in mind that this principle is valid for all organizations, from the smallest to the biggest. (Guess why the planetary monetary system is sick at the moment ? (26/12/2010) It's because people don't believe in it any more, and other people "wish" to have a better system.)
